Why You Need to Eat More Fat

It may sound paradoxical: To shed weight, eat more fat. However that tactic is what many health professionals are recommending in order to combat the current

obesity crisis. Wait one minute, you say. Isn't fat bad, the ingredient we're supposed to avoid such as the plague? Until Lishou Diet Pills recently, age-old wisdom held that

fat was the number one health enemy, responsible obesity, heart disease, along with a slew of other diseases. But a new study in the National Institutes of

Health is popping that old thinking on its head. The main study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that an eating plan that reduces

carbohydrates in favor of fats (including even fatty foods found in animal meats and butter) improves nearly every health measurement, from trimming our

midsections to keeping our arteries clear, better than the usual low-fat diet. Additionally they had bigger improvements within their cholesterol and

triglyceride levels, the research team reports. "On average, they lost 8 pounds more, and lost more body fat mass," said researcher Dr. Tian Hu, a doctoral

fellow at Tulane University School of Public Health in New Orleans. The one-year study involved 148 ethnically diverse women and men who have been split into

two groups. One group consumed a diet high in fats but low in carbs; another group was put on a low-fat diet program. One year year, the high-fat, low-carb

group lost nearly three times more weight compared to fat-restricted group. It must do with the way in which carbohydrates are broken down into blood sugar

levels, which prompts the body to create insulin, that is ultimately kept in fat cells around our midsection. Quite simply, it's carbohydrates--not fat--that

plumps us up. "Low-carb diets have traditionally been viewed as potentially risky," said Bazzano, a professor of nutrition research at Tulane, adding the

study suggests otherwise--people around the low-carb diet saw slightly greater improvements within their amounts of "good" HDL cholesterol and triglycerides,

another type of blood fat. The medical community has long pitted carbs against fats. Within the 70s and beyond, low-carb, high-fat diets were all the trend,

popularized by such weight loss programs in the Atkins Diet and also the South Beach Diet. However, many health professionals actively advised against such

an approach, arguing that diets high in saturated fats would invariably result in high cholesterol along with other health issues. These experts required a

low-fat diet regimen to help keep weight in check and defend against coronary disease. Lately, though, emerging studies have explored the pivotal role that

sugar and carbs play in adding to heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Actually, numerous studies have pinpointed sugar as the cause of most health issues.

So high fat diets trump low-fat diets? Despite the NIH's study, it's important to issue several caveats. To begin with, there isn't any one-size-fits-all

method of dieting; differing people respond favorably to various eating plans. It's been proven, for instance, the Mediterranean diet, which advocates "good"

fats like olive oil and plenty of fruits and whole grain products, is ideal for health. Furthermore, carbohydrates aren't necessarily the problem; rather, it

is the type of carb that's consumed. Focus on eating fiber-rich carbs like whole grains, beans, and fruits instead of refined carbs, which are stripped of

fiber. "Instead of lowering carbohydrates 7 Days Herbal Slim too much," says Sonya Angelone, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, "Why not replace refined

carbs--like white bread and pasta--with fiber-rich foods?"
