Seven Questions for Lori Harrigan-Mack

What's been the largest challenge of The Biggest Loser to date?
Peeling back layers of emotions which i hid for a long time and didn't really deal with. I can't say the physical part is easy, but dealing with the sentiments that got me overweight in the first place is the hardest thing I've done.
How did this chance come super slim pomegranate capsule about?
I really like watching the show. I had been one of those people who would take a seat on the couch and eat while I watched. One of my teammates from the Olympics called me and asked if I desired to get it done. She'd the opportunity but she had lost 30 pounds, so she did not have enough weight to lose to qualify to be on the show. So she'd handed me over to one of the casting people, and that i filled out the applying. I didn't have enough time to wrap my brain around it and talk to my hubby. We'd to make our decision within 24 hours, after which it happened so fast. I found L.A. and was on the show. After i reached the ranch [where the show's contestants have to stay], I don't think I'd realized things i had done.
You've attributed your weight gain to some poor diet, several miscarriages and depression. Overcoming excuses is one thing you hear a great deal on the program. What's been your biggest excuse?
It's been a number of things. Each time I got pregnant it had been, "I can't really exercise" because I was so scared of miscarrying. I didn't know if it had been something which I had been doing. So after I might have the miscarriage, then I would be depressed. I would simply have that "I don't care" feeling. But then after i got from my depression, I was feeling a bit better [and then] I'd just always employ the excuses of "my time-table is too busy; I have my son to take to school and homework to complete." I would always just develop something that would put myself last and everyone else first.
As of Episode 4, which aired October 2, you're down 25 pounds from the 301 at the first weigh- in. Would you have forfeit the load without going on the show?
If this opportunity came up, I wasn't sure what I was going to do, but I believe it was a part of God's plan for me. After i got here, I started questioning, "Did I must come here and expose myself like this, or could I have tried it at home." Obviously, I completely believe that anybody can do that at home. However, within the emotional state I had been in--this is something which i truly needed. And I am so humbled and grateful towards the show, since it is saved my entire life.
Ultimately this is a competition against yourself, but regardless of whether you stay on the show is partly determined by the way your cast mates perform. Has the competitive athlete in you come out in this process?
Absolutely. One thing that's driven me to be here the most is knowing which i possess the support from my husband and my son. They need me to battle and wish me to be here. After i think about going home, I browse around in the other contestants and I start getting on myself saying, "You can compete with these folks. Why are you not competing and getting in the game?" That's definitely been a huge thing, so I teeter back and forth from "I'm homesick, and I miss my family," to "You can beat these folks. The reason for not fighting?" Then my competitiveness arrives, and that i go to the gym. My athletic side has definitely kicked in.
After the show has wrapped, will you try for kids again?
My husband wrote us a letter that brought me to tears. He said, "I we do hope you love me enough when we are together again that people can talk about having children, because I would like to possess a little girl-whether it's having or adopting a girl--and have her be just like you." Of course, I'd love to have more children. I'm 44, and so i don't know how realistic that's for me. One, it's a financial thing as far as when we tried in vitro or anything else, but even adopting is really a financial thing.
How have you ever changed since beginning your journey on the show?
I definitely have a more positive outlook about dealing with life and stress. I understand my relationship with God has got stronger. Whenever you arrived at the ranch and you've got no electronics or no TV, it can make you determine who you are and what you want or what sort of outlook you need to have. It's changed not only me as person, but it has truly strengthened my marriage. My spouse and i have dealt with so much pain of all the single miscarriage, I think God has pulled us apart to heal us separately.
Letter-writing is definitely a lost art, and my husband's letters happen to be beautiful and also have motivated me to the point where Personally i think like our marriage is in a totally different place. I feel like I am returning a completely different person [with] a brand new heart and positive outlook. I'm ready to go home and work out how I will implement my healthy life back into my old one.
It has been ten years since you last competed in the Olympics. Have you cease working out afterward or were you just trying to take your life down a different route?
Once i retired in 2004, it had been very hard to transition back to my normal life. That was from playing on the nation's team for 12 years and visiting the Olympics. I lived out of my suitcase, and that i was on the highway a great deal. You play at the very highest level of our sport. So, when I came home it was definitely hard to mentally transition into "you just returned from the Olympics, you won a gold medal, now return to work, and put your clothes back in a drawer and go back and be the standard Lori just before 12 years ago."
Of course, in my mind, physically I wanted to consider a rest, but one of the most popular stuff that started for me was the transition from retirement to going back into normal life. I simply went back to work and it was trying to become this normal person, and that i had just met my husband at that time. I was thinking about getting married, but in 2006, 2 yrs once i retired, I'd my first miscarriage. Shortly after that, I had been pregnant with our son. After that point is how the load gain really slowly became a problem, because I had our son after which after that the multiple miscarriages started happening where the depression happened even more. It simply became more and more hard to lose the weight and have the need to even lose it.
Have you attempted to lose the weight previously?
The older you get your metabolism changes. I usually attempted to get back into getting healthier and slimming down, and it just became progressively difficult with everyday struggles and life. I think this is where the excuses are available in. I have been on every diet there's as well as in my head as an athlete I understand that dieting and exercise may be the only way it is going to sustain. Instead, I took the easiest way out and tried every diet that there is and exactly what I possibly could to lose it. It was only a spiral effect with everything else I was dealing with emotionally.
You work in security at Mandarin Oriental. Have your employers been supportive?
Oh, my goodness, yes. My boss was supportive because the first time I mentioned it to him. I am grateful to them because there are very few bosses who are likely to bless what you're doing and say, "Please, go look after yourself," particularly with me to be the director of security and running a department. It speaks volumes to what kind of company they're.
I was fortunate enough after i helped MGM Resorts International to have them support me 7 days herbal slim extra within my Olympic career and today afterward to possess Mandarin do this. -- This complete experience in the show to Mandarin and to my family and everyone else, I'm just completely humbled at the support that I've had and it's not at all something I will take for granted. It's just motivating me much more to make sure that I maintain the healthy way of life after I'm done [with the show].
